Beloved Disciple

Several weeks ago, I watched the movie “The Gospel of John” and that made me think that if I had a chance to talk to any of Jesus’ disciples, he would be the one. Just think how wonderful it would be to sit down and talk with the disciple Jesus loved.  I am know He loved all of His disciples, but there must have been something special about John. After all, at
Calvary, He did entrust the care of His mother to John. I would love to know the qualities that made him so special.  Qualities that we all need to be Jesus’ “Beloved Disciples.”

Every Day Is Jesus Day

Today is May 1 or May Day as we use to call it when I was in Junior and Senior high school. I remember the games, dancing, singing, food and, finally, tying the ribbons around the May Pole. But soon it would be over, and the next day would be just another ordinary school day.  But now instead of celebrating the beginning of May, I choose to honor it as the beginning of another month to give glory to Jesus.  For me celebrating Jesus is not just one special day because everyday is Jesus Day.

Bible Study

I recently purchased "The Beloved Disciple" member book by Beth Moorre. I am really looking forward to doing this study since the Gospel of John is perhaps my favorite book of the Bible.  I also purchased  "Bible Study Methods" by Rick Warren (the author of "Purpose Driven Life) to aid in my study of the Bible. I really need all of the help I can get.

I have decided to make Sunday evenings my time for intense Bible study.  Through the week, I sometimes do not get home from work until after six or close to seven pm. Saturday is usually running around or cleaning up. I need time where I can study and not be interupted. I also plan to start back to read a chapter a day in my Bible.

Finding My Christian Sweet Spot

I have just begun reading a new book by Max Lucado entitled "Cure For The Common Life." Although I am just in the first chapter, it has really started me to thinking about what is my gift for serving. What is my "Sweet Spot" for the Lord? According to Mr. Lucado everyone has one. He also states that God endow us with gifts to make Him known. What has He set aside for me to do to serve Him? I know He has a place of service for me. Why else would He bring me through a near stroke and two bouts of breast cancer.

Beautiful Day

Posted in REFLECTIONS at 5:33 p04 by rosebearry

Around 3:45 pm today I walked to the drug store about a block from where I work.  It is so beautiful outside.  So many of my fellow workers were walking and jogging, laughing and talking. It made me wished I had been out earlier.  The sun was shining but there was a little breeze so that it was not overly hot. The temperature was just right.

As I walked back to work, I took time to thank the Lord for such a day as this. Even though, the rain must come, I know the Lord will have a day just like this to chase the rain away.

A LOVE BEYOND COMPARE

By Gilda Thornton 09/2005

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son. John 3:16….and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Matthew 28:20How many of us as parents would be selfless enough to give up an only child to save one person let along a whole sinful world? I have to admit I probably would not.  But there is a Father that did just that. Let’s take a trip back over 2000 years ago to a heavenly scene may be like this one:The Heavenly curtains are drawn back as God watches His children commit sin after sin, debauchery after debauchery.  “How long will I permit this to go on? I have given them so many chances. Yet, they turn to false gods and idols.  I have been silent for four hundred years, but no more. I have had enough.” Jesus walks toward His Father and places His hand on His shoulder saying “Father allow Me to go to them in human form.” God replies “you will not be accepted by the majority, especially the religious community.” Jesus smiles softly “I know, but they need me.” God looks at His beloved Son and touches His face “Yes, you must go for you are humanity’s only chance. You will be mocked, tortured and put to death.  But, there will be those faithful few that will believe and acknowledge you as my Son.  Through your death and resurrection their faith will go stronger, and they will preach the gospel of salvation throughout the world.

As Jesus looks at the world below He replies “I will be their Intercessor and I will be with them always even until the end of time.

….for you serve the LORD JESUS. Colossians 3:24

I am not sure what made think of Sam this afternoon. It may have stemmed from a conversation with my daughter. But looking back when I was still in high school, Sam always loved the LORD and loved serving in HIS name. It did not matter if he did not know the proper do's and don'ts to be an usher, every Sunday he would be right there at the door greeting everyone with a smile. It did not matter if he couldn't read all of the words to the songs and sang off key, he would usually be the first one in the choir stand every Sunday. If they needed an extra hand to pass around the collection plate, Sam would be the first one to volunteer. It did not matter whether he had a nickel, a dime, a quarter or a dollar in his pocket, because when it came down to giving, he would give every penny he had on him. Sam did not come to church to gossip or for church mess, he came for one thing and one thing only, and that was to serve his JESUS.It has been almost 37 years since I finished high school but Sam, who should be close to 70, still love to serve his JESUS and does it with joy and child like faith each Sunday.
